When Doctors Yusuf and Belle Overio decided to start a library in a mountainous community in Tubungan, Iloilo, the odds were heavily stacked against them. Skeptics outright told them that it would never work, claiming that the children in the area simply would not bother to read. Without a grand budget or a physical building, the idea of launching a functional reading center seemed completely impractical by human standards.

But instead of letting doubt stop them, they leaned into faith and possibility. Armed with a profound belief that children just needed access and encouragement, they built the Overio Family Little Popup Community Library. It stands just 1.2 meters by 1.2 meters in size—a humble structure lovingly crafted entirely from tree trunks, bamboo, and scraps of wood. Starting with books from their own home and outgrown items from their children, the tiny sanctuary now stays open 24/7 on a pathway where students walk to school. By cultivating trust and offering small incentives for reading, this tiny space has sparked a monumental wave of literacy and joy among the local youth, proving that a big heart can transform any small offering.

We often hesitate to act on our dreams because our resources look too small, or the negative voices around us sound too loud. Today’s Gospel reminds us that God does not require massive structures or flawless conditions to perform a miracle. When we surrender our humble pieces of “bamboo and scrap wood” to Him, He breathes life into them and multiplies our efforts far beyond human limitations.

Lord, when the world tells us our visions are impossible, give us the courage to see through the eyes of faith. We offer you our small resources, our fragile dreams, and our humble beginnings. Take what little we have and use it to build something beautiful for your kingdom. Remind us daily that you are the God of the impossible, and that with you, even the smallest step of obedience can yield a hundredfold reward.
