We easily mistake a title or an official role for true service. We register for community events, put on our official IDs, and take our seats at the table. Today’s Gospel from Matthew 22:1-14 warns us that God desires genuine transformation over casual activity. In the Parable of the Wedding Feast, a guest enters the banquet but is cast out because he failed to put on the required wedding garment. He showed up to the venue, but he did not dress for the occasion.

Jesus reveals the vital line between mere membership and authentic discipleship:

Think about our journey within a community like the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP). It is easy to attend the weekly breakfasts, show up to the assemblies, and accept a committee assignment. We are physically present in the room. Yet, if our hearts are still consumed by personal ambition, market rivalries, or professional stress, we are only half-present. We might wear the community banner on our chests, but fail to bring a servant’s heart to the work. True commitment happens when we step past the threshold of casual attendance and consciously put on the “wedding garment” of selfless leadership. It means transforming how we conduct our businesses, how we manage our employees, and how we care for our brethren when no one is watching.

Moving from being invited to being chosen means shifting from simply occupying a seat to completely surrendering your talents to God’s mission. God invites everyone to join the ranks, but the chosen are those who allow the marketplace to become their primary altar of sacrifice.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for calling me to serve within this community. Forgive me for the times I have treated my service as a mere routine or a social obligation. Strip away my pride, my professional distractions, and my desire for recognition. Clothe my heart with absolute commitment to Your mission, so that my work in the marketplace may truly reflect Your love, integrity, and grace. Amen.
