Healing Hearts and Hands: A Triumph of Service in Malay, Aklan

The Malay Multi-Purpose Gymnasium was transformed into a hub of hope and healing on April 18, 2026 as the Alfonso Yuchengco (AY) Foundation, in a powerful collaboration with Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) Kalibo and Malay, successfully conducted a massive Medical Mission.

Supported by the St. Joseph the Worker Parish Pastoral Council and held under the auspices of the Municipal Government of Malay through the leadership of Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista, the event served as a testament to the incredible impact of faith-driven compassion.

A Warm Welcome to the Gateway of Boracay

The mission journey began on Friday, April 17, 2026, as the dedicated team of doctors and nurses from the AY Foundation arrived from Manila. To introduce them to the beauty of the region, the team was treated to an immersive cultural experience at the Motag Living Museum.

Natives offer a farewell song for the AYF guests.
Ati-Ati children awed the guests with their tinikling prowess.
The Beast of Burden is for shuttling guests around too.

Leaving the museum behind, the team headed to Narra Resort in Brgy. Nabaoy for a celebratory lunch. Nestled right against the tranquil Nabaoy River, the location provided a peaceful sanctuary where the Manila and local teams could bond ahead of their busy schedule. To cap off the evening, the group reunited for dinner at the popular Plato de Ciudad Restaurant and Bar in midtown Caticlan.

Faith in Action: The Day of Service

The following Saturday commenced with an early morning flurry of activity as volunteers set up the venue. After the spiritual grounding of a Holy Mass and a shared breakfast, the mission swung into full gear. Volunteers worked tirelessly until past 3:00 PM, attending to a steady stream of grateful residents who arrived seeking care.

The flurry of activity began even before sun-up!
Approaching the opening hour.
In the midst of the activity, volunteers gave their all.

Over 500 patients benefited from:

  • General medical check-ups
  • Essential vaccinations
  • Specialized health consultations
  • Free medicines and vitamins

The medical expertise was a combined force of the AY Foundation’s elite team and selfless professionals from the BCBP membership. Local BCBP doctors led by example, including Dr. Mary Magpusao and her daughter Dr. Joanna Ignacio, along with Dr. Athena Magdamit and Dr. Gervic Ambay, who all dedicated their time and skills to the cause.

The Next Generation Steps Up

While seasoned members of the “mother” BCBP Kalibo Chapter were present to offer support, the day truly belonged to the BCBP Malay Mission. It was the members of CLP 1 and CLP 2—the newer faces of the brotherhood—who took full charge.

From the complex weeks of planning and logistical preparation to the successful implementation on the ground, these newer members proved they were more than ready for the mantle of leadership.

Watching this transition, Chapter Head Gerome and Yeye Quimpo shared their pride: “We felt like proud parents watching our children take flight. Seeing the Malay Mission members accept such a heavy responsibility and perform so outstandingly fills our hearts with gratitude.

A Legacy of Service

The future of the BCBP Malay mission is in very capable hands!” – Kalibo CH Gerome and Yeye (shown here with BCBP Tatang Jess and Bing Vargas of Bacolod South in white)

For the Municipal Government of Malay and the partners in the mission, the event was a brilliant demonstration of the “Bayanihan” spirit. As the medical mission concluded, the 500-plus patients served stood as a living reminder that when we align our plans with the needs of the people, the results are transformative.

Perhaps no one was more transformed by the experience than the members of the BCBP Malay Mission themselves. They haven’t just ‘arrived’—they have led with heart, excellence, and a profound commitment to service.
