In times of economic uncertainty, the strength of a community is measured by its ability to adapt without losing sight of its core mission. Recognizing the significant impact of the current global oil crisis on fuel prices and transportation costs, the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) has released a comprehensive set of community response measures designed to ease the burden on its members while fortifying the bonds of brotherhood.
Adaptive Operations and Practical Stewardship
The leadership has introduced practical shifts to minimize fuel consumption and operational costs. Most notably, the BCBP Head Office has transitioned to a condensed four-day workweek (Tuesday to Friday, 8 AM to 9 PM), maintaining a full 40-hour schedule while reducing weekly commutes.
Chapters are also encouraged to:
1. Prioritize Virtual Meetings: Shifting non-essential administrative gatherings to online platforms. In this regard, the Kalibo Chapter is pleased to offer its Google Meet subscription for use by members and Action Groups (AGs), subject to usage guidelines.
2. Consolidate Activities: Combining events, such as Breakfast Fellowships with Teaching or Assemblies, to reduce the frequency of travel.
3. Facilitate Local Participation: Allowing temporary chapter transfers for members to attend meetings closer to their homes.
The Spirit of “Buy-from-Brothers”
Beyond logistical adjustments, the BCBP is calling for an intensification of pastoral care and mutual business support. In a powerful display of Christian solidarity, the “Business Support Among Members” initiative encourages “Buy-from-Brothers” programs, business mentoring for those facing challenges, and providing employment opportunities within the community where possible.
A Mission Unchanged
While the methods of gathering may shift, the mission of formation, evangelization, and pastoral care remains steadfast. These temporary measures are not merely cost-cutting exercises; they are an exercise in prudence and unity.
As the memorandum from President Anecito Serrato and BOT Chairman Luis Ferrer emphasizes, these moments are a call to live out the true spirit of brotherhood—trusting in God’s providence while taking responsible, ethical actions to support one another through the storm.
The two-page memorandum dated March 16, 2026 addressed to all Chapter Heads, RCDs and Mancom/BOT Members are here and here.
