Introduction to PEN: A Guide to Writing Your Testimonial

The Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) uses a framework called PEN to guide members in writing their testimonials. PEN stands for Pain, Encounter with Christ, and New Life. This article explores how to use the PEN framework to develop a clear and impactful testimonial.

  • Pain – The first step is to identify the pain or struggle you faced before encountering Christ. This could be anything from a personal failing to a professional setback. Be honest and transparent about your challenges.
  • Encounter – Next, describe your encounter with Christ. This could be a specific event or a gradual realization of God’s presence in your life. Explain how this encounter transformed your perspective or behavior.
  • New Life – Finally, share how your life has changed since your encounter with Christ. This could involve improvements in your relationships, your career, or your overall well-being. Focus on the positive impact that Christ has made in your life.

By following the PEN framework, you can craft a testimonial that is both personal and inspiring. Your story can help others to see the power of God’s grace in transforming lives.

On the other hand, we understand there are challenges faced by BCBP members in delivering testimonials. Some speakers struggle to keep their testimonials concise or focused. Others worry that their stories are not sensational enough to be interesting. The BCBP Teaching Ministry assures members that their stories are valuable, regardless of how dramatic or ordinary they may seem.

Remember that by focusing on the core message of transformation, you can deliver a powerful testimonial that will resonate with your audience.
