A Time of Challenge and Adaptation
The global crisis that began in late 2019 and continued through 2020 and 2021 had a devastating impact on communities worldwide, and Kalibo, Philippines, was no exception. Limited resources in our nation meant that restrictions on movement and assembly became necessary to slow the spread of the virus.

These restrictions caused significant disruption. Businesses struggled, employment opportunities dwindled, and hard-earned savings were depleted. Schools and churches, vital parts of our community, were forced to close their doors. Many organizations, including BCBP Kalibo, were compelled to significantly slow operations or even cease them altogether.
The pandemic caught BCBP unprepared for the challenges of a virtual world. While the previous administration made valiant efforts, many members lacked the technological skills or reliable internet access necessary to fully participate in online activities.
Of course, internet services had been available in Aklan for some time before the pandemic but major providers saw Kalibo and its surrounding areas as a backwater town with limited potential for return on investment. Unlike Metro Manila, where high-speed 4G and 5G connections were widely available, providers like Smart and Globe focused their infrastructure development solely within Kalibo’s downtown area and left virtually everywhere else in and around town wanting.
Nevertheless, in the past three years since the pandemic’s onset we have seen a positive shift towards development. Communication infrastructure in uptown Kalibo and its environs have undergone significant improvement. Home fiber optic connections, offering speeds previously unimaginable were now affordable and at an arms’ reach to a much larger portion of the population. Major phone companies have also invested in improving their infrastructure.

This improved connectivity presents a tremendous opportunity for BCBP Kalibo. With a more digitally connected membership, the organization can explore new avenues for communication, collaboration, and outreach.
The Power of Communication

In today’s digital age, effective communication is no longer a luxury, but a necessity even for non-profit organizations like BCBP Kalibo. A well-developed Communications and Digital Directorate can significantly enhance the organization’s reach, impact, and ability to fulfill its mission. Here’s how:
1. Amplifying BCBP Kalibo’s Message:
- A strong directorate can craft compelling narratives that resonate with target audiences, be it potential members, donors, or volunteers. This can be achieved through strategic use of various communication channels, including social media, a user-friendly website, and press releases.
- By effectively communicating BCBP Kalibo’s core values (love for God, country, and community) and the impact of its programs (e.g., Brotherhood Christian Life Programs), the directorate can attract like-minded individuals who share the organization’s goals.
2. Building Stronger Relationships:
- Proactive communication fosters a sense of connection and transparency with existing members. Regular news reports, engaging social media content, and informative website updates can keep everyone informed about BCBP Kalibo’s activities and achievements.
- The directorate can also leverage digital tools to facilitate two-way communication, allowing members to provide feedback and suggestions. This fosters a sense of community and strengthens the bond between BCBP Kalibo and its members.
3. Expanding BCBP Kalibo’s Reach:
- Social media platforms and a well-optimized website enable BCBP Kalibo to reach a wider audience geographically. This is particularly important for attracting new members, volunteers, and potential donors who may not be located in Kalibo.
- The directorate can also explore digital fundraising platforms, allowing supporters to contribute conveniently and securely. This can significantly expand BCBP Kalibo’s financial resources and support its mission.
4. Building Brand Awareness:
- A consistent and strategic communication approach can establish a strong brand identity for BCBP Kalibo. This includes developing a clear visual language, messaging that reflects the organization’s values, and a user-friendly online presence.
- By establishing a recognizable brand, BCBP Kalibo can build trust and credibility with the public, making it a more attractive prospect for collaboration and partnerships.
In conclusion, a well-structured Communications and Digital Directorate is an invaluable asset for BCBP Kalibo. By harnessing the power of communication and digital tools, the organization can effectively share its message, build stronger relationships with its members, expand its reach, and ultimately, fulfill its mission of promoting Christian values and serving the community.
